Slovenian border |
|
Valli del Natisone are near the border with Republic of Slovenia. Some of proposed tours need to cross this border. Actually Slovenia doesn't agree European Union nor Schengen Treaty and so a passport is needed to cross the border. Nevertheless relationships between Italy and Slovenia are excellent. The border line is marked by a series of boundary-stones and there are no troubles if crossed involuntarily. Border stations between Italy and Slovenia are classed in "1st Class Border Stations" (Valichi di I categoria) and "2nd Class Border Stations" (Valichi di II categoria) or agricultural. Tourists can cross the border showing their Passport or Identity Card only on 1st Class Border Stations (ask border office at phone +39/0432/731112 to know if special needs, like visas, are required on your passport). People living in the Valli del Natisone and in the border belt are provided with a pass wich allows crossing also on 2nd Class Border Stations.
